Mailbox Monday - 5/24

Mailbox Monday can be found at: The Printed Page

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don’t count, eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

I got four books in my mailbox last week.  The first was "Android Karenina" which I got from Quirk Books to review as part of their huge blog event that they are doing on June 6th.  Thanks to Quirk books for this review copy!

I bought "Spirit Bound" and "Caliber: The First Canon of Justice".  Had to have that next Vampire Academy book right away!  Caliber looks like an awesome graphic novel and I am eager to read it.

The last book I got through paperbackswap.com and that was "Flush".  I absolutely loved Carl Hiaasen's book "Hoot", so when I saw that this book was available for swap I snapped it up :-)

That's it for me this week!  I hope you all great books and wish you Happy reading :-)  See below for more details on the books I got.

Android Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and Ben H. Winters
Android Karenina (Quirk Classic)
First Sentence: "Functioning robots are all alike; every malfunctioning robot malfunctions in its own way."
From Amazon.com:
"Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters co-author Ben H. Winters is back with an all-new collaborator, legendary Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy, and the result is Android Karenina an enhanced edition of the classic love story set in a dystopian world of robots, cyborgs, and interstellar space travel.

As in the original novel, our story follows two relationships: The tragic adulterous love affair of Anna Karenina and Count Alexei Vronsky, and the more hopeful marriage of Nikolai Levin and Princess Kitty Shcherbatskaya. These characters live in a steampunk-inspired world of robitic butlers, clumsy automatons, and rudimentary mechanical devices. But when these copper-plated machines begin to revolt against their human masters, our characters must fight back using state-of-the-art 19th-century technology and a sleek new model of ultra-human cyborgs like nothing the world has ever seen.

Filled with the same blend of romance, drama, and fantasy that made the first two Quirk Classics New York Times best sellers, Android Karenina brings this celebrated series into the exciting world of science fiction. "

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, Book 5) by Richelle Mead

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, Book 5)
First Sentence: "There's a big difference between death threats and love letters- even if the person writing the death threat still claims to have actually loved you."
From Amazon.com:
"Dimitri gave Rose the ultimate choice. But she chose wrong...
After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri's birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir's-and to her best friend, Lissa. It is nearly graduation, and the girls can't wait for their real lives beyond the Academy's iron gates to begin. But Rose's heart still aches for Dimitri, and she knows he's out there, somewhere.
She failed to kill him when she had the chance. And now her worst fears are about to come true. Dimitri has tasted her blood, and now he is hunting her. And this time he won't rest until Rose joins him... forever."

Caliber: The First Canon of Justice by Sam Sarkar and Garrie Gastonny
Caliber: First Canon of Justice Volume I
First Sentence: "The visions were always my least favorite part."
From Amazon.com:
"The Arthurian legend of Excalibur is reborn in the Old Pacific Northwest a world in which shamans replace wizards, gunfighters ride without a knight s armor and a mystical six-shooter forged from the metal of the fabled sword will change the world. In a land where lawlessness runs rampant, only Arthur can bring balance to the scales of justice, and only Caliber can bring justice to the land."

Flush by Carl Hiaasen
Flush
First Sentence: "The deputy told me to empty my pockets: two quarters, a penny, a stick of bubble gum, and a roll of grip tape for my skateboard. It was pitiful."
From Amazon.com:
"Bestselling novelist Carl Hiaasen is back with another hysterical mystery adventure for young readers, set in the Florida Keys.

Noah's dad has a little problem with anger control. He tried to stop the Coral Queen casino boat's illegal dumping . . . by sinking the boat. But his bold protest fizzles: within days the casino is back in business, and Noah's dad is behind bars and out of action.

Now Noah is determined to succeed where his father failed. But even though pumping raw sewage into the waters of the Florida Keys is both gross and against the law, turns out it's near impossible to catch the flusher—especially when he's already bamboozled the prosecutors, the local press, and even the Coast Guard.

But Noah's got a few allies. There's his little sister, Abbey, an unreformed childhood biter; Lice Peeking, a half-soused ex-mate of the Coral Queen who is willing to testify . . . for a price; and Shelly, a bighearted bartender with even bigger biceps.

Okay, so the odds aren't good. But Noah has an ace up his sleeve—a plan so crazy it just might stop the polluting, save the beaches, and prove to the world that it's the owner of the Coral Queen, and not his dad, who is full of . . . crud."

  4. pussreboots,
Yep I have Scat on my list to read too, but I am trying to restrain myself from getting too many books...so Flush first...then Scat!

    Stephanie,
Yeah I actually have the original Tolstoy book to read too. Unfortunately I think I am going to be reading the Android version first...just because of timing. Usually I like to read the original first...should be amusing though ;-)
