News - Book Series Chart, Ratings for Series

I have had a couple people leave comments about the book series chart I provide on the side of my page.  The number one request is that the series be linked to my reviews.  Which I thought about for awhile...and decided would just be too much work.  I would have to go through some 400+ reviews and link them and the thought of doing that exhausts me.

So instead I have added in a column "Overall series rating" in which I rate the series as a whole...up to the point I have read it.

There is some obviousness linked to the rating.  If I am still reading the series it is generally a 3 or higher.  Why would I keep reading it if I disliked it?  If I have stopped reading the series usually it is rated a 3 or lower; because, again obviously, I wouldn't stop reading something if I liked it.

There are a couple caveats.  This is an overall series rating, so some books in the series are better than others.  In a couple of cases I have modified the rating a bit.  For example in the case of the Anita Blake series the first books in the series are 5's and the later ones 3's.  I know this doesn't supply specifics about why I did or did not like a book.  But, well, if you really want info on an author or a book do a quick search on my blog using the search bar at the top and you can read more detail on whatever series or author you are interested in.

Ratings are as follows:
5 stars - I have loved every book in this series.
4 stars - There have been some exceptional books in this series, and I like the series as a whole
3 stars - It is okay.  I may keep reading it if the subject interests me or I may drop it because I only have time to read series I really love.
2 stars - I didn't like the series and stopped reading it.
1 star - There were technical flaws in the series that made me hate it and I stopped reading it.

My choice to stop or continue a series is based on lots of things.  How often books come out and how many books are planned in a series plays into the decision as well as, of course, how much I liked the content of the series.  So hopefully people will continue to find this chart useful and the ratings will provide some of the input you are looking for.

Cheers!

Book Series Chart

Previously I have posted a spreadsheet that lists all of the series I am reading.  Well I finally figured out a way to post it in the sidebar and link it to a constantly updating spreadsheet.  So in the lefthand sidebar below my reading challenges you can link to it.  Click on it and it will open up in a new tab.

This chart shows:
- Series I am currently reading, along with release dates of the next books (at the top)
- Series I have on my shelf to read (in blue)
- Series I stopped reading (in green)
- Series that have ended (in purple)

I also have lots of great information about when the next books in a series are expected to be released and how many books are expected in a series.

Anyway, I hope that someone gets some use out of it (besides me).  It is the only way I can keep track of all the series I am reading or want to read.  You can also click below to link to it:

News: New Book Titles and Book Series Chart Update

I finally got around to updating the series I am reading and when new books are coming out in them. You can look at the chart below. The series in blue are ones I have but haven't started reading yet, the ones in green are ones I stopped reading because I didn't like them, and the ones in purple are series that I have recently finished.

A couple of highlights:

House of Night:
Okay so most of us know that book 6 "Tempted" is due out in October. I just recently found out that book 7 is going to be called "Burned".

Kate Daniels:
Book 4 will be titled "Magic Bleeds" and will be out in June of 2010.

Sookie Stackhouse:
The anthology of all of the Sookie Stackhouse series comes out in a couple months. Looks like the next book in the series will be titled "Dead in the Family" and will be released in May 2010.

The Hollows:
The next book in Kim Harrison's Hollows series will be titled "Black Magic Sanction" and will be released in Feb. 2010.

Nightside:
The next book in the Nightside series by Simon Green will be titled "The Good, the Bad, and the Undead" and will be released on Jan. 5, 2010.

The chart is below so enjoy! I will continuously update as I get more information.

Update of the Dreaded Series Reading Chart

Okay so it has been a long, long while since I posted my famous chart of all of the series I am reading. Here it is in all of its glory. I have added in notes about all the info I know about upcoming books in the series, series length, etc. etc. Click on the picture to enlarge it.

Enjoy! If it says I am on book 0; that means I have not started to read that book yet. Eventually I will get all of these series read, or I will give up on them. Whatever...
