Mailbox Monday - 12/7

Mailbox Monday can be found at: The Printed Page

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don’t count, eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

I got four books this week. The first three I got through the Amazon Vine program. The very generously let us pick four books from their leftovers newsletter this week. I ended up with "e2: A Novel" by Matt Beaumont (this one just looked funny), "Curse of the Spider King" by Wayne Thomas Batson (I have been wanting to read Batson's The Door Within Trilogy), and "Everwild" by Neal Shusterman (second book in the Skinjacker Trilogy, I just finished the first "Everlost" and it was really good.)

The last book I got from paperbackswap.com it was "The Goblin Hero" by Jim C. Hines, I have the first book in this trilogy and have been waiting to start it until I get the last two books.

Lots of good books! Check them out below. Hope you all have a great week and Happy Reading!!!

"e2: a Novel" by Matt Beaumont

First Sentence: "Well, here we are again."
From Amazon.com: "Hijinks galore among the deliriously funny ad men and women in this electronic epistolary novel.
e's wickedly hilarious crew from the Miller Shanks Ad Agency is back with more office shenanigans. The staff has moved on to Meerkat360, a sleek and self-consciously hip boutique agency, where they are joined by a fresh cast of industrial-strength nutjobs. Through e-mails, texts, and blog entries they pitch ad campaigns-Estée Lauder's new Margaret Thatcher perfume, anyone?-mangle love lives, and barely navigate office and family politics.
Armed with the acid wit of e upgraded with the full arsenal of modern cyber tools, e2 leaves you rolling on your cubicle floor and snorting vile vending-machine coffee out of your nostrils. "

"Curse of the Spider King" (The Berinfell Prophecies, Book 1) by Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper

First Sentence: "Concealed in a grove of alder trees, two cloaked figures waited; their whispered voices lost in the soft rustle of wind-stirred leaves."
From Amazon.com: "The Seven succeeding Elven Lords of Allyra were dead, lost in the Siege of Berinfell as babes. At least that's what everyone thought until tremors from a distant world known as Earth, revealed strange signs that Elven blood lived among its peoples. With a glimmer of hope in their hearts, sentinels are sent to see if the signs are true. But theirs is not a lone errand. The ruling warlord of Allyra, the Spider King, has sent his own scouts to hunt down the Seven and finish the job they failed to complete many ages ago.

Now 13-year-olds on the brink of the Age of Reckoning when their Elven gifts will be manifest, discover the unthinkable truth that their adoptive families are not their only kin. With mysterious Sentinels revealing breathtaking secrets of the past, and dark strangers haunting their every move, will the young Elf Lords find the way back to the home of their birth? Worlds and races collide as the forces of good and evil battle. Will anyone escape the Curse of the Spider King?"

"Everwild" (Book 2, Skinjacker Trilogy) by Neal Shusterman

First Sentence: "There were rumors. Of terrible things, of wonderful things, of events to immense to keep to oneself, and so they were quietly shared from soul to soul, one Afterlight to another, until every Afterlight in Everlost heard them."
From Amazon.com:There was the rumor of a beautiful sky witch, who soared across the heavens in a great silver balloon. And there were whispers of a terrible ogre made entirely of chocolate, who lured unsuspecting souls with that rich promising smell, only to cast them down a bottomless pit from which there was no return.

Everlost, the limbo land of dead children, is at war. Nick the "Chocolate Ogre" wants to help the children of Everlost reach the light at the end of the tunnel. Mary Hightower, self-proclaimed queen of lost children and dangerous fanatic, is determined to keep Everlost's children trapped within its limbo for all eternity. Traveling in the memory of the Hindenburg, Mary is spreading her propaganda and attracting Afterlights to her cause at a frightening speed.

Meanwhile, Allie the Outcast travels home to seek out her parents, along with Mikey, who was once the terrifying monster the McGill. Allie is tempted by the seductive thrill of skinjacking the living, until she learns a shocking secret: Those who skinjack are not actually dead.

Critically acclaimed author Neal Shusterman writes a book about life, death, and how the choices we make define ourselves in this luminous sequel to Everlost, which Orson Scott Card called "marvelously inventive...and magically beautiful."

"The Goblin Hero" (Jig the Goblin, Book 2) by Jim C. Hines

First Sentence: "Jig the goblin was no warrior."
From Amazon.com: "After barely surviving an adventure he never wanted, the scrawny little nearsighted goblin called Jig is now known as Jig Dragonslayer, and has the power of healing, thanks to the forgotten god he worships. But being a hero isn't all it's cracked up to be. Not when the goblin leader wants him dead, and everyone else actually expects him to keep doing heroic-and incredibly dangerous-things."
