In My Mailbox and Mailbox Monday - 9/20

IMM is a meme started at The Story Siren with some inspiration from Alea of Pop Culture Junkie.

Anyone can participate in IMM and you are not limited to only sharing books that arrive via your mailbox. You can also share books that you've bought or books that you've gotten at the library.

Mailbox Monday can be found at: The Printed Page

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don’t count, eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

This week I got a lot of books again.  I actually bought four of them new.  Pretty unusual for me but I wanted one book specifically then saw Amazon's by three get the fourth free deal and fell for it.  The four I bout were: The Stepsister Scheme by Jim C. Hines, Blameless (The Parasol Protectorate, Book 3) by Gail Carriger, The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett, and Nights of Sin (Kirin the Balladmaker, Book 2) by Matthew Cook

I got one ebook this week from netgalley.com.  It is actually the first three books in Marilee Brothers Unbidden Magic series.  I have had Moonstone on my wishlist for a while, so when I saw it (along with the next two book sin the series) for free I jumped at the chance to get it to review.

Then I got two books from the library.   An Artificial Night (October Daye, Book 3) by Seanan McGuire and Radiance by Alyson Noel.  I am currently reading An Artificial Night and it is awesome so far.

Thanks for stopping by, check out the books I got below.  Hope you all have a week of happy reading!

The Stepsister Scheme by Jim C. Hines
The Stepsister Scheme (PRINCESS NOVELS)
First Sentence: "Danielle Whiteshore, formerly Danielle de Glas, would never be a proper princess.
From Amazon.com: "What would happen if an author went back to the darker themes of the original fairy tales for his plots, and then crossed the Disney princesses with Charlie’s Angels? What’s delivered is The Stepsister Scheme—a whole new take on what happened to Cinderella and her prince after the wedding. And with Jim C. Hines penning the tale readers can bet it won’t be “and they lived happily ever after.”
BLAMELESS( PARASOL PROTECTORATE #03 ) BY Carriger, Gail Paperback{Blameless( Parasol Protectorate #03 ) } ON 01 Sep-2010)
First Sentence: "How much longer, Mama, must we tolerate this gross humiliation?"
From Amazon.com: Quitting her husband's house and moving back in with her horrible family, Lady Maccon becomes the scandal of the London season.

Queen Victoria dismisses her from the Shadow Council, and the only person who can explain anything, Lord Akeldama, unexpectedly leaves town. To top it all off, Alexia is attacked by homicidal mechanical ladybugs, indicating, as only ladybugs can, the fact that all of London's vampires are now very much interested in seeing Alexia quite thoroughly dead.

While Lord Maccon elects to get progressively more inebriated and Professor Lyall desperately tries to hold the Woolsey werewolf pack together, Alexia flees England for Italy in search of the mysterious Templars. Only they know enough about the preternatural to explain her increasingly inconvenient condition, but they may be worse than the vampires -- and they're armed with pesto."

The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett
The Warded ManFirst Sentence: "The great horn sounded."
From Amazon.com: "As darkness falls after sunset, the corelings rise—demons who possess supernatural powers and burn with a consuming hatred of humanity. For hundreds of years the demons have terrorized the night, slowly culling the human herd that shelters behind magical wards—symbols of power whose origins are lost in myth and whose protection is terrifyingly fragile. It was not always this way. Once, men and women battled the corelings on equal terms, but those days are gone. Night by night the demons grow stronger, while human numbers dwindle under their relentless assault. Now, with hope for the future fading, three young survivors of vicious demon attacks will dare the impossible, stepping beyond the crumbling safety of the wards to risk everything in a desperate quest to regain the secrets of the past. Together, they will stand against the night."

Nights of Sin (Kirin the Balladmaker, Book 2) by Matthew Cook
Nights Of SinFirst Sentence: "The cold is winning."
From Amazon.com: "The besieged Imperial City lies inside the massive wall of the Armitage; outside, the attacking Mor have laid waste to most of the land. The Imperial Court seems unaware of their peril, but Kirin and Lia - who have barely survived the Mor and made their way to the City - know the danger all too well! When Kirin discovers a necromancer who seems to possess her power over blood, she hopes he can help her understand her strange magic. Meanwhile, the deadly Mor are assaulting the walls of the city that shelters them."

From Library:
An Artificial Night (October Daye, Book 3)
First Sentence: "One thing I've learned in my time working as a private investigator-slah-knight errant for the fae community of the San Francisco Bay Are: if something looks like it's going to be simple, it probably won't be."
From Amazon.com: "October "Toby" Daye is a changeling-half human and half fae-and the only one who has earned knighthood. Now she must take on a nightmarish new challenge. Someone is stealing the children of the fae as well as mortal children, and all signs point to Blind Michael. Toby has no choice but to track the villain down-even when there are only three magical roads by which to reach Blind Michael's realm, home of the Wild Hunt-and no road may be taken more than once. If Toby cannot escape with the children, she will fall prey to the Wild Hunt and Blind Michael's inescapable power."

 Radiance by Alyson Noel
Radiance
First Sentence: "The weirdest part about dying is that nothing really changed."
From Amazon.com: "Riley has crossed the bridge into the afterlife—a place called Here, where time is always Now. She has picked up life where she left off when she was alive, living with her parents and dog in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. When she’s summoned before The Council, she learns that the afterlife isn’t just an eternity of leisure. She’s been assigned a job, Soul Catcher, and a teacher, Bodhi, a possibly cute, seemingly nerdy boy who’s definitely hiding something. They return to earth together for Riley’s first assignment, a Radiant Boy who’s been haunting a castle in England for centuries. Many Soul Catchers have tried to get him to cross the bridge and failed. But all of that was before he met Riley . . ."
